Week 16 Pregnancy
Pregnancy lasts 36 weeks (meaning nine months) and it is divided in three periods: the first trimester (between the first and the twelfth week), the second trimester (between the thirteenth and twenty-fourth week) and the third trimester (between twenty-fifth and thirty-sixth week).

During the second trimester, the uterus is growing (usually after the twelfth week of amenorrhea), the abdomen is getting prominent and the pregnancy becomes visible. The movements of the foetus can be noticed between the twentieth and the twenty-second week (in the case of the first baby). Your breasts get bigger and your skin pigmentation is pronounced (you can deal with the appearance of some spots on the face). The abdomen’s skin gets thicker and you can gain weight (between 5 and 7 kilograms).

At the beginning of week 16 of pregnancy you baby has a weight of almost 120 grams. You may not feel it, but the little one has learned how to hiccup and he/she does it quite often. In fact, the baby learns to hiccup even before he/she learns to breath. The hiccup does not make any sound because the trachea is full with liquid. The baby can twinkle and he/she is able to swallow. The little one can also move his/her eyes (even if there is nothing interested to see).

The legs become longer than the hands, the nails are completely formed and all the joints and articulations work perfectly. The fingers are developing now. It is very interesting the fact that the baby has even small eyelashes.

After the end of week 16 of pregnancy you are able to find out the baby’s sex by the method of echography because de external genital organs of the foetus are sufficiently developed to permit the doctor to notice the difference between a boy and a girl.

At this time you probably gained weight (almost 2-4 kilograms). From now on nothing will be more concrete than the magic feeling of sensing the first movements of the baby. The future mothers can feel the first movements of their baby around week 16 of pregnancy and week 20. If it is not the first pregnancy, you can notice these movements earlier than week 16. What it may seem like “gases” in the stomach it is, in fact, the baby who “executes” some gymnastic exercises. You must keep in mind the date of the baby’s first movements in order to communicate it to the doctor who is monitoring the pregnancy.

It is good to know that the “clogged” nose is a sensation very often met during the pregnancy, the same as nasal hemorrhage. Even the nose passes through a period of transformation together with your body. The level of progesterone and estrogen is rising and produces the inflation of the mucous membrane. You have to avoid the nasal sprays or any other medicine (and it is also good to know that a bowl which can produce water vapour can help in this case).

It is indicated to keep under observation all the pregnancy stages in order to have and easy birth and a healthy child.
