Unfortunately, there are cases when during pregnancy appears pregnancy complications and the women receive from the health care provider the recommendation of bed rest during pregnancy. Even if it may seem unusual, there are pregnancies cases of witch development depends on bed rest. In fact, did you know that bed rest during pregnancy is a common practice? Don’t worry if the doctor tells you that you have to bed rest, because this thing happens because of different pregnancy complications serious or less serious, from simple periodic resting at home to full bed rest and monitoring in a hospital.




The period of bed rest that women have to spend depends on the complications, while some women are put to bed rest for a week, or a short period of time, other women are put to rest for all most their entire pregnancy period. Bed rest doesn’t necessarily mean to stay in bed and do nothing, it may mean that you can move around the house, but without making any effort or standing for a long time.

-pregnancy complications, such as: incompetent cervix or cervical effacement;
-gestational diabetes;
-pregnancy complications of the placenta, such as: placenta abruption, placenta accrete or placenta previa.

Now you will probably wonder how bed rest helps improving those pregnancy complications, what should we do to deal with bed discomfort, what is the best position for bed rest and what you are allowed to do and not to do while bed rest during pregnancy.

In most cases the bed rest is the best solution that health care providers offer to women in order to normalize the body and to prevent worsen and provoke certain situations.

The best position for bed rest depends on the pregnancy complications that you have and your health care provider will prescribe you the position to address or to prevent. In the majority of cases the health care providers recommend women to address on your side with knees and hips bent or to lie on your back while being propped up with pillows or to lie on your back with your hips or legs elevated higher than your shoulders.

The bed rest has its own secondary effects, for example if you lye down for a long period of time you will experience loss of the muscle toning, joint ache or reduce blood circulation. You may talk to your health care provider to recommend you physical exercises proper for your state of health.

If you don’t have major complications with your pregnancy the health care provider will probably allow you to do some physical exercises, or easy routine house duties.

In some cases the health care providers don’t allow women to do anything and advise them not to have sexual intercourse either, in other cases the pregnant women are hospitalized and permanently monitored by the health care providers.Is not a very pleasant situation, but we do everything for our babies.
